Specialist Leaders of Education Wanted!

What is a Specialist Leader in Education?

The SLE concept is about recognising leaders who are excellent at what they do and are able to help leaders in other schools to improve.

Who they are?

SLE’s are outstanding middle and senior leaders such as Deputy Headteachers, Assistant Headteachers, Key stage leaders/TLR post holders, Phase and/or Subject leaders or School Business Managers, with at least 2 years’ experience in a particular field of expertise. They have the capacity, skills and commitment to support other individuals or teams in leadership positions in other schools.

What does this involve?

SLEs will work beyond their own schools, supporting individual or groups of teachers using a high-level coaching or facilitation approach that draws on their knowledge and expertise in their specialist area. This may involve a variety of support approaches, such as:

  • 1-1 support

  • Facilitated group support

  • Use and analysis of data

  • Diagnosis of strengths and areas for development
